Environmentally Constructive Venue
This newly-built venue is one of the most modern and technically-advanced handball stadiums in the region .The complex has a total built-up area of approximately 40,000 m2 and stands on a 30,000 m2 land area of softscaping, water feature , parking spaces and paved walkways.
Built to host professional tournaments and large crowds , the facility is consisted of 5,350 seat for the indoor stadium and two practice courts with 500 seats and back of house facilities suitable for hosting international sports events . In addition the facility houses 60 rooms for player accommodation which aimed to garner 5-star standards and a 25m -four lane swimming pool. The complex is the Qatar Handball Association Headquarters and serves as the home ground and main training base for all of Qatar’s National Handball Team.
Qatar is set to host 24th edition of the world men’s handball championship next year. The tournament will be held from 15th January to 1st February 2015. And make Qatar the 2nd country in the Middle East to have hosted the event after Egypt in 1999.
The games of the tournament will be played in Doha. Three venues are being constructed for the tournament and one of which is the Qatar Handball Association Complex.
The complex, with a total built-up area of approx. 40,000 square meters, will include an Arena with a planned capacity of 5,500 seats. It is being constructed on a 30,000 square meters land area of soft Landscaping, water feature, parking spaces and paved walkways.
A master plan of the complex includes 2 training halls; 60-bedroom players’ accommodation, restaurant and lounges; QHA administration and media offices; presidential and exclusive lounges; medical centre; gymnasium; and swimming pool and grandstands. The project has been designed as a sustainable ‘Green’ building and is being executed by two primary agencies: IGH (Architectural and Interior) and WSP Middle East (Structural, MEP and Geotechnical Engineering) constructed by Redco Construction Almana.
