Partnerships with local companies key to winning contracts in Qatar
Contractor says forming a joint venture with a Qatari firm reduces risks and challenges for international contractors.
Forming a joint venture with a local partner is a vital part of wining work in Qatar’s construction market, says Monjid Abdelmajeed, Managing Director of the local REDCO Construction Almana.
“Having an effective and operative joint venture with a local contractor is very important to be successful in Qatar,” said Abdelmajeed at MEED’s Qatar Projects 2012 conference.
Qatar’s construction programme in preparation for the 2022 World Cup will create challenges for international contractors in supply chain, manpower and the health and safety sectors, and Abdelmajeed stressed that an effective joint venture with a local contractor can help reduce the challenges and risks of entering the Qatari market.
“In an effective partnership, companies will have greater access to building materials, local subcontracting services and required equipment,” says Abdelmajeed.
Qatar is planning to spend upwards of US$ 100bn on developing its infrastructure, transportation and housing projects over the next decade in preparation for hosting football’s World Cup in 2022.
